HOTLINKS

The purpose of this list is to point you to resources for helping to co-create a new and better world, the kind of world described in our Church Brochure * #1 read first: church brochure .

Most of these are resources that Rev. Alia or other church folks have direct knowledge and experience of. There are thousands of alternatives to these items that we don't know about, some of which might be even better than what's here. Just because something isn't here doesn't mean it isn't great.

Feel free to add anything you like, in a comment.

Items which are added after the initial posting of the blog are dated.

We aaccept no liability for any consequence of anyone interacting in any way with anyone or anyplace or anything listed here. That's because in our religion each person is a sovereign Being, whose Spirit is responsible for creating their own experiences.

If any link or URL appears to you in pale grey type or maroon or some other color, instead of blue, it will still operate as a link if you click on it.

Beauty, Inspiration

If you like photos of space, check out the Astronomy Pictures of the Day Top 12 for 2007, at http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/apoys2007.html And if you don't like pictures of space, you just might change your mind!

I love space pictures. Here's a new one every day: http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html

Brainy Quotes is an ever-fascinating compendium of funny, wise, and otherwise quotations from anyone you can think of and others you can't think of! http://www.brainyquote.com/

Inspiration and consciousness-expansion from contemplating the scale of things: Powers of Ten takes you from a multi-galactic view down to earth and down to the sub-atomic level. Great appreciation for this Universe we live in. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powers_of_Ten which has many useful links, and the slide show at http://micro.magnet.fsu.edu/primer/java/scienceopticsu/powersof10/

I believe the more we focus on the world we want, the faster we will live in it. Ode Magazine helps focus our attention on the growing amount of wonderfulness. http://www.odemagazine.com/ There are a growing number of magazines with a positive approach, positive news and examples. Do an internet search for the terms. Here is an article about positive magazines: http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2007/10/05/4337 Here are a few examples: http://www.yesmagazine.com/ and www.positiveaction.info/publications and http://www.guidepostsmag.com/ has a Christian slant, and can be uplifting for anyone. Hope magazine has ceased publication after 9 years, but look for old copies. I also spotted http://www.hopeforwomen.com/ magazine, and http://www.hopetodaymagazine.com/

Extraordinary stories of ordinary people and miracles, incredibly inspiring, book after book: Guideposts has several book series on Angels and publishes Angels on Earth magazine, access info from http://www.guideposts.org/

Spiritual Cinema Circle: The Netflix of uplifting, consciousness-raising, inspiring, spiritually-oriented movies. Not associated with any religion or other religious group.

Business Consciousness

Washington State Holistic Chamber of Commerce http://www.washingtonholisticchamber.org/ Has several chapters, and is part of a growing national network of chambers of commerce for holistically oriented businesses of all kinds.

http://www.amazon.com/ Amazon.com as a source for books. They synergize with oodles of small used bookstores, and their selection of titles is absolutely amazing. And prices verrry reasonable. But other good book sources exist online, too.

http://www.rianeeisler.com/ Check out Riane Eisler's book The Real Wealth of Nations: Creating a Caring Economics. I doubt that I fully agree with her approach, having heard only a bit about the book, but she's certainly thinking outside the box, and her ideas do not involve much coercion, as far as I can tell so far.

Nearly everyone in the US is operating on misinformation about how economics truly operates. We'll never get our economic act together as a nation unless we educate ourselves about what is really going on, why things are as they are, and how we might dig ourselves out of our mess. The Foundation for Economic Education (FEE) http://www.fee.org/ provides periodicals, lectures, programs, seminars, and published books by a wide variety of authors offering a true education on liberty, free enterprise, free market, and economic and social well-being for a society. They might at first glance look “conservative” but they are actually off the liberal-conservative spectrum entirely, critiquing both. You can learn to whatever depth you want. They can point you to the best authors and thinkers.

John Cummuta http://www.tdiw.com/ The Credit Solution book/CD course via Nightingale-Conant.http://www.nightingale.com/ Provides two valuable things: a good Dutch-uncle approach to prying us out of our “living on credit” mentality, and a mathematically clever do-able set of simple steps to paying off our debts and maybe even starting to create a surplus.

Community Living, Society, Social Structures

C.T. Lawrence Butler, http://www.consensus.net/ He with others has developed and honed The Formal Consensus Process, the most spiritually-advanced process for group decision-making that I have run across. Their book On Conflict and Consensus is short but full of useful guidelines. If you are interested in Peace and Community, I strongly recommend you study this stuff. Seminars sometimes available around the country.

Spiral Dynamics http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiral_Dynamics for general information about this framework for understanding people, cultures, and history, which I find extremely valuable despite the downsides described (and IMO over-emphasized compared to the advantages) by wikipedia, and http://www.spiraldynamics.net/training.shtml for one current version and set of applications of the ideas. The system is often used in business contexts because it is the broadest and most flexible management philosophy and techniques available, in the opinion of many of us. The book Spiral Dynamics is available from amazon.com (see link above) but is expensive, even used. But worth every penny, in my opinion.

Riane Eisler http://www.rianeeisler.com/ Her book Sacred Pleasure: Sex, Myth, and the Politics of the Body – New Paths to Power and Love shows the historical origins, present day manifestations, and solutions to human violence, how war and political power coercion actually begin in gender relations and child-rearing practices around pleasure and pain!. It is a monumental work that I wish everyone would read; the potential benefit to the world is beyond imagining. Not an easy read, but worth plowing through. It will shake up your life. You will never look at the world the same again.

Very few of us seem to be into the Pay It Forward idea (see the video of the movie based on the inspiring book Pay It Forward) but I encourage you to check out http://www.payitforwardfoundation.org/ or http://www.payitforwardmovement.org/ or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/pay_it_forward

Also few of us are formally into Practice Random Acts of Kindness and Senseless Acts of Beauty but I encourage you to check out http://www.actsofkindness.org/ or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Random_act-of_kindness or http://www.theraokgroup.com/ or http://www.randomactsofkindness.org/, and do a search on the phrase, also. The book is available and wonderfully inspiring and a good guide for acting.

The Gaia Community http://www.gaia.com/ is a large and dynamic worldwide Internet-based social networking community of people who are into Being the Change they want to see in the world, and “Spreading the Love” and wisdom. It's diverse; it's respectful; people find it enriching and a haven. It's also free (version with conscious-business ads) or ad-free for a small fee. A jillion ways of connecting easily with like-minded folks are built into the system. Has large quotes, books, internet bookmarks, and videos databases. Promotes conscious business philosophy and has local resources section.

http://www.meetup.com/ Meetup has worldwide coverage of local groups for a bazillion categories of interests, including lots of spiritual, health, conscious business, and personal growth interests. It's free to the members and low-cost to the meeting organizers. Also offers excellent help and education for having a successful local “meetup” group.

Ecological Awareness

http://www.huna.org/ Huna.org has the best summary (Climate Change Article) I have found for those who despair about global warming, etc.

Health

http://www.johnleemd.com/ Dr. John R. Lee, M.D., author, speaker, IMHO world's foremost expert on hormone health for men and women. I worship the ground he walked on; he helped so many. Such a sweet man, now deceased.

Dr. Devi Nambudripad, http://www.naet.com/ To help her son, she invented Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Technique. Despite being holistic and radical, it is now used and taught around the world. There are also next-generation versions developed by others.

If you haven't checked out the matter of mercury dental fillings yet, you might find it advantageous to do so. You can start at the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, http://www.iaomt.org/ I will add another site or two soon, but you of course can Search "dental mercury filling toxicity" or some related terms. There are books on the subject. In Seattle-region, check out http://www.drpaulrubin.com/ and there are other mercury-free dental care providers around the region, too.

Citizens for Health, http://www.citizens.org/ “The voice of the natural health consumer.”

http://www.brucelipton.com/ Dr. Bruce Lipton, Ph.D., is apparently controversial but his ideas about health and genes are very empowering, even if not accurate in every detail. His famous book is The Biology of Belief.

Deepak Chopra, M.D. has some dynamite books on health, not just spiritual topics. I especially recommend Ageless Body, Timeless Mind. Check them out via http://www.amazon.com/, or at his website http://www.chopra.com/

Kevin Trudeau http://www.naturalcures.com/ Natural Cures “They” Don't Want You to Know About (Updated Edition.) A #1 New York Times bestseller. Extremely controversial. Well worth exploring. He's a virtual encyclopedia of natural medicine and the ways drug companies and the medical establishment interfere with our health.

HSI http://www.hsibaltimore.com/ A gold mine of many ways of accessing alternative health and natural medicine information. Info that is generally withheld from the public by big financial interests. HSI is into selling you stuff, but it's mostly REALLY good stuff !!

Gary Null, Ph.D. Like most of these guys, he has his critics, but he seems to know a lot about a lot in health matters. His “thing” is research, and he's written and published a great deal, with also audios and videos available, and stuff from other folks too. Check him out. http://www.garynull.com/

Mark Stengler, N.D. (Naturopathic Doctor). I am very impressed with his knowledge, based on his own practice and his research into others' research. And his info is available via books and newsletters.http://www.bottomlinesecrets.com/experts/mstengler.html

Jonathan Wright, M.D. Numero uno, I think, of the alternative-medicine Medical Doctors
http://www.tahoma-clinic.com/articles.shtml
http://www.wrightnewsletter.com/healthy/drwright.html

http://www.ralphgolanmd.com/ Dr. Golan's book Optimal Wellness should be on everyone's shelf. It's an extraordinary guide to understanding the chronic health problems people often live with (and indirectly die from) such as sluggish liver, candida yeast infections, depleted adrenal glands. He's not easy to get in to see, and not cheap, but an incredibly expert alternative/complementary medical doctor. 206-524-8966

Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy is for women and men. Something alternative to check out. You can start here. http://www.johnleemd.com/store/news_bhrt.html

http://www.womanspirit.net/ main place to find Gina Ogden, author of Women Who Love Sex, featured on Oprah, a top book on spiritual, sacred female sexuality consciousness.

John Gray, the Mars and Venus guy. He's not perfect, slightly male-biased, but hey, if you haven't read several of his many books, you don't know the ABC's of relating to the opposite gender. http://www.marsvenus.com/ Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus is the first of the series of books he wrote.

http://www.sourcetantra.com/, Charles Muir, teaches sacred sexuality and conscious loving relationships between partners. The basic book is Conscious Loving by Charles and Caroline Muir. Books, seminars, videos.

Self-Improvement, Personal Growth

http://www.nathanielbranden.com/ Nathaniel Branden, Ph.D., psychologist originally with Ayn Rand, special areas self-esteem and romantic love. Lots of books and audios. Clear, exceptional.

www.sandramaitri.com/, Sandra Maitri, author of The Spiritual Dimension of the Enneagram. A must-read to achieve real self-understanding, not to mention so useful in understanding others. Promotes spiritual evolution. Please know the Enneagram is NOT most basically a personality system, but a spiritual system about souls.

Sonia Johnson, feminist activist and writer. I have extreme differences from her, especially about men and sex, but I admire her for being so courageously Out There with her truth; IMHO she became psychologically and spiritually very advanced, with lots of useful insights and visions we actually can relate to, I believe. Even some socially/spiritually radical stuff about community living! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonia_Johnson And you can also do a search on her name.
http://www.candacepert.com/

Candace Pert is a pioneer in biochemical mind-body relationship research, I admire her being one of those unconventional researchers and also how she got her work, the book Molecules of Emotion, "out there.

Noam Chomsky, http://www.chomsky.info/ Despite our differences re politics, I admire his mind, his philosophical/psychological investigations, and his being Out There with his truth. He's a Real Person.

Colin Wilson, philosopher, author of 169 books, "dogged optimist," integritous, insightful thinker about consciousness--individual, social, and their interaction-- including alienation, the paranormal, sexuality, and violence (including the psychology of war and terrorism.) An inspiring person, even though I don't relate to all his topics, such as the psychology of violent people. But his work on social "outsiders" would speak to many of us, I believe. I especially enjoyed his autobiography Journey to a Beginning. www.britannica.com/eb/article-9077119/Colin_Wilson or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colin_Wilson or http://www.colinwilsonworld.co.uk/ that's his actual site.

List of logical fallacies. These are false arguments or errors in thinking that you encounter all the time. They trip us up and can actually cause us harm, or cause us to harm others. Get to know this list, explore: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fallacies

Heartmath Institute Heartmath Institute does cutting-edge research on the heart (and not just the physical heart) and its relationship to all aspects of life. Plus they have great techniques for learning calm and peace and they emphasize the value of Appreciation. They are far-out and wonderful folks I have studied with. Also check out http://www.heartmath.com/

Do you value Wikipedia online user-run encyclopedia? I discovered they operate on donations! http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Fundraising You can donate online or other ways, and in any currency. 501c3 tax-deductible in USA. We support things that help build our better world. [Wikipedia is not without its biases, but still great.]

Nightingale-Conant http://www.nightingale.com/ They publish audios and videos of dozens of the most famous and effective self-improvement teachers. Their own history is long and good.

WIE magazine, What is Enlightenment? Magazine. Now called EnlightenNext magazine. Quarterly, and not cheap, but back articles are available free online!! A real treasure trove, that is. While I don't endorse a lot about the spiritual teacher/guru Andrew Cohen, this magazine has lots of really uplifting, fascinating, and educational articles on the cutting edge of spirituality-applied-to-life. “For anyone interested in transforming human consciousness and culture. It brings you the leading voices of our time—from business and politics to spirituality and science—plus insightful and controversial commentary from today’s most talented and engaging writers.” Www.wie.org/mag or http://www.enlightennext.org/magazine/ Their blurb says For People who want to create the future. They also have audios and videos. I find the whole approach very inspiring.

Bottom Line books, publications. https://www.bottomlinesecrets.com/ They are the know-it-alls who really do. And they are pro-consumer, so they tell “secrets.” They offer a ton of stuff; I have never been disappointed. Not that I agree with every word of every publication, but you will live a better life if you access their info.

Spiritual Growth

http://www.noetic.org/ The Institute of Noetic Sciences. Mission: "Advancing the science of consciousness and human experience to serve individual and collective transformation." Founded by astronaut Edgar Mitchell. They publish and do a lot of interesting stuff. Inspiring "The Shift in Action" information.

http://www.intenders.org/ and http://www.intenders.com/ from Intenders of the Highest Good organization provide you with lots of inspiration and instruction in the process of manifesting or creating your ideal life and world. Our church has a local Intenders group.

Sounds True. http://www.soundstrue.com/, a direct source for audio courses, books, videos, and music for personal and spiritual transformation. They have lots of really high-quality stuff from famous teachers.1-800-333-9185. Ask for their catalog.

Spiritual Teachers

These teachers do not have the arrogance that many “gurus” do.

http://www.tomkenyon.com/ Tom Kenyon has fabulous consciousness-raising music, books, newsletter, etc. Founder of the field of psycho-acoustics, I think. I have some significant differences from him, but find his work valuable. The Magdalene Manuscript is an excellent book about sacred sexuality, though probably not acceptable to many Christians.

http://www.jodunning.com/ Jo Dunning is a marvelous seemingly-ordinary-but-extraordinary American woman spiritual teacher who has lots of [but not all] Truths, humility, lovingness, clarity, high energy, and who has helped me a lot to improve my ministry of Being.

Byron Katie, known as “Katie,” helps people work with their suffering, their unwanted hurtful thoughts and attitudes. http://www.thework.org/. She's the author ofseveral books including Loving What Is, and A Thousand Names for Joy. I have found what she teaches us to do is extremely psychologically and spiritually beneficial. Her approach does not involve fancy concepts or abstractions or any dogma you have to agree with. It's very psychological and self-empowering.

Adyashanti. So quiet, so low-key, so humble, so sensible. Really cuts through all the hype and actually helps people stop their spiritual striving and seeking because they move into Realization. His approach does not involve fancy concepts or abstractions or any dogma you have to agree with. It's very personal and self-empowering. http://www.adyashanti.org/. He travels and writes and gives lots of audio material available online. One of the best spiritual teachers I have ever encountered.

Eckhart Tolle. Many people find his spiritual teachings very accessible, which is why Oprah did her famous webcast course with him (available still via http://www.oprah.com/ ). His most famous books are The Power of Now, and A New Earth. He is also, in my opinion, easily mis-understood, and I have my spiritual differences from him, but can still recommend him. He is somewhat into jargon, but still free of dogma and self-empowering. Lots of seminars, books, audios, DVD's, etc. His website is http://www.eckharttolle.com/

Ken Wilber. http://www.kenwilber.com/ He's written so many books, and has so many websites and spinoffs going. His work encompasses many areas of life and thinking, and he provides a context or framework into which almost everything else fits, in my opinion. He's my numero uno for understanding the world and other people in ways that are useful for uplifting folks, and he's also a great teacher of spiritual growth. Two good entry-points into the vastness of his work are the books One Taste, which is a spiritual-social-intellectual diary, and A Brief History of Everything. Or No Boundary, or Grace and Grit which is the spiritual journey of his wife's death. Or start with any of the websites devoted to his ideas. I can't even list them all. Just do a search on his name! Or start at the Wikipedia entry about him http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_Wilber There is a lot of jargon to learn, but you can learn it!

Deepak Chopra, M.D. has many best-selling books, seminars, audios, videos. He is a very accessible and extremely popular teacher. http://www.chopra.com/
